Can You Live in Commercial Property Gold Coast?

Yes, but only if it is approved as a caretakers residence. There are very limited commercial properties approved as caretakers residences on the Gold Coast mainly due to the prohibitive costs applied by Council for such approvals. This is because Council aim to reserve commercial properties for commercial use to protect economic advantages of businesses being able to have appropriate space to operate in our city.

Should someone choose to live in a premises without the required approvals, then Council may issue a show cause notice to the occupier which could result in legal action to cease (and in the case of a tenant, they would most likely still be liable for any lease obligations even if they are unable to operate in the premises). In addition, body corporates usually frown upon an owner or tenant living in a commercial premises without the required approvals as it may impact on the insurance for the building.

How Can I Obtain Town Planning Advice on Gold Coast Commercial Property?

Obtaining correct information on what zoning you can operate your business in is an important factor for both buyers and tenants. While our expert commercial property agents and managers may be able to provide you with a basic guide, there are two main recommended formal sources:
